Lushan Hot Spring Beneath Wushe is the tranquil village of Lushan. Hot springs are found along the banks of both sides of a turbulent river that runs past the village. At the end of the river lies a path that leads past a pair of waterfalls to the dormant source of the spa's hot water. The intensity of the water's heat is high enough to boil eggs. These boiled eggs are highly nutritional due to the minerals that are found from the water. Lushan village is known for its tea, medicinal herbs, petrified-wood canes, wild-blossom honey, and dried mushrooms. Visitors can purchase rare medicinal products, which are expensive in Taipei, from Lushan. A good place to stay is the Lushan Garden Guest House on the left side of the river. Sun Moon Lake Over at the western foothills of the Central Range is a popular honeymoon resort known as the Sun Moon Lake. The lake is 750m above sea level, surrounded by mountains and lush tropical greenery, and takes the shape of a round sun when viewed from a surrounding hill, or of a crescent moon when viewed from another angle. The idyllic landscape of the turquoise waters, emerald-green hills, and mountain mists set the mood for romantic couples that flock to the lake's shores. Sun Moon Lake was previously a hydroelectric dam built by the Japanese. Traces of the lake's south shore still remains. The lake's popularity often attracts bus-loads of tourists from Taipei and abroad. The best way to enjoy the lake is to awake at daybreak and walk along the road that winds around the lake. Visitors can put up at the Sun Moon Lake Hotel, which rests on a high slope overlooking the lake. Tzeun - Pagoda of Filial Virtue Chiang Kaishek constructed the Pagoda of Filial Virtue in memory of his mother. The temple is situated atop a hill beyond the Hsuanchuang Temple. To get to the foot of the pagoda, you would have to walk past a parade of bamboo, fern, maple, and pine trees. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the entire Sun Moon Lake and its surroundings from here.
