Snake Farm The state of Perlis is noted for its large population of venomous snakes as the limestone caves and crevices offers the best natural habitat for these reptiles. The Snake Farm at Sungai Batu Pahat houses 23 species of live snakes in large open-air enclosures. In addition, there is also a crocodile and fish pond. Arau The royal town of Perlis, Arau, is 10km east of Kangar. It has a Royal Palace and a Royal Mosque, which can easily accommodate up to 7,000 people in one prayer session. The town, with houses interspersed with clusters of fruit trees and coconut palms, is worth a visit. Tasik Melati A small picturesque lake, Tasik Melati is located about 8km north of Kangar. The lake is shallow and more than 150 sandbar-islands can be seen all over the lake. Visitors can row sampans to these tiny islands. Elevated walkways are found over the waters, thus providing vantage viewpoints and seating for visitors. Recently, the lake was also stocked with fishes. Bukit Air Recreational Park An ideal location for picnicking, Bukit Air offers cool streams that meander through a lush tropical forest setting with waterfalls cascading into a frothy rocky pool. It also offers camping sites, car park facilities, and basic amenities to make the trip more comfortable.
