Countdown to the New Millennium
By Audrey Goh

What are your plans to celebrate the Millennium? Where will you be as the clock ticks toward midnight on December 31st? Who will be celebrating this rare occasion with you? If you are still open to suggestions, let me recommend Singapore.

Singapore will embrace the new millennium with five not-to-be-missed countdown parties in various parts of the island. Orchard Road, Marina South, Singapore Indoor Stadium, Suntec City, and NTUC Pasir Ris Resort are the chosen locations. The parties are open to all. Enjoy yourself at one of them or party-hop to all five!

Experience the best street party ever in Singapore at Orchard Road. Be entertained by local and international artistes or dance the night away with amazing special effects and pyrotechnics. Alternatively, there is the National Stadium, which offers fireworks display, laser visual treats and pyrotechnics. Fun for the whole family can be found at the NTUC Pasir Ris Resort. You will be treated to a night filled with merrymaking and excitement that includes a star-studded concert, laser and pyrotechnics displays, and...the looooooongest Pasar Malam (night market) ever! Not to be outdone, Suntec City will offer party revelers a pulsating night of fun, music and dancing. This is your chance to boogie non-stop to the hottest hits of the century!

If the above parties are too noisy for your liking, don't despair. Come along to the Singapore Indoor Stadium where a 16-hour long dance event, the Singapore Ballroom Dancing Championship 2000, awaits you. This event will stretch past midnight (from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. the next day) to usher in the new millennium.

With all these fun events, something must be done to fill the tummy! For a good taste of international cuisine, don't miss out on the food village, which is located by the scenic Kallang River. It is bound to tease your tastebuds with the myriad choices of delicious food.

Whatever that strikes your fancy, try not to miss this historical moment as we countdown with the rest of the world. There will also be a live global countdown broadcast program featuring the New Year Celebrations from cities around the world that are celebrating this millennium too.
