Once a race course before liberation, now it is popularly known as The People’s Square. It is located in downtown Shanghai. Here, you will get to see the Municipal City Hall, Shanghai Museum and the Shanghai Grand Theater. Not forgetting, there’s also the No.1 subway People’s Square stop and an array of underground excitement inclusive of an underground shopping street, an underground transformer house that is the largest in Asia and an underground parking ground, the largest in Shanghai. It could accommodate up to 600 cars. On both sides of the 600-m long and 32-m wide People’s Avenue, there are 5.5-m wide green belts and 6.5-m wide passages for non-motorized vehicles. Right at the center of the square is a 320-sq. m. round fountain and a beautiful landscaped lawn of 80,000 sq. m. Towards the western side of the square are 1,000 pigeons! People’s Square is crowded during the weekends as many people enjoy the peaceful and pleasant scene on the square.
