• Regional
Specialties
Due to its relatively small size and efficient transport system,
most regional delicacies can be obtained throughout New Zealand.
Here is a list of various specialties found in the country.

What
to Eat
A classic New Zealand meal almost three decades ago would consist
of well done roast lamb with gravy, at least three kinds of vegetables,
complimented at the end with pavlova, which is a saccharine meringue
concoction topped with whipped cream and sliced fruit. Wine, at
that time, was not a popular drink accompaniment unless it was a
canapé of medium-sweet sherry.

• Wine
In the past, good New Zealand wines were limited to overseas consumption.
It wasn't because production was low, but because the wines had
not reached a standard high enough to compete with wines from other
regions. However, times have changed and New Zealand is now among
the top wine producers in the world, winning international medals
and trophies.
