East of Ko
Adang is Ko Rawi, which is a rather small island although many
coral reefs and tropical fish populate its southeast coast.
To the south
of Ko Adang lies Ko Lipe, which is inhabited by about 500 chao
náam (sea gypsies) who were thought to have originated from the Lanta
islands in Krabi Province, making a living for themselves through fishing
and the cultivation of vegetables and rice. Camping is allowed here. Otherwise,
the chao náam will rent out huts for 150B to 300B per night.
Along the
southern side of the island are several small 'beachy' coves and coral
reefs. Again, the chao náam will provide hire boats for tours to the nearby
islets.
You may hire
boats from the chao to tour the nearby islets. Between Ko Tarutao and
Ko Adang-Rawi is a small cluster of three islands called Muu Ko Klang
(Middle Island Group), which is a great place for snorkeling. Ko Khai
also has a terrific white-sand beach. The boat trip from Ko Tarutao to
Ko Khai will take about 40 minutes.
