Kuantzuling A short distance off Highway 3 to Pingtung is Kuantzuling, a rustic hot spring spa that is renowned for its therapeutic mineral waters. The hot springs are believed to be able to cure chronic skin ailments and gastrointestinal and stomach problems. Behind Kuantzuling village lies a few interesting sights. There are the Exotic Rock and the Water-Fire Crevice, which is unusual. The house-sized rock is part of a prehistoric landslide frozen at the spot. At times, fossil skeletons can be spotted etched on the sides. The crevice contains boiling hot mineral water that constantly flicks fire, which have turned the grotto black. Kuantzuling also has its share of temples in the area. Blue Cloud Temple was built in 1701, and then there is the new Monastery of the Great Immortals, and a smaller Temple of the Immortal Ancestor, all of which display the beauty of traditional Chinese architectural designs.
