A short distant from Taipei
city lies a small town called Yingko. Pottery lovers often make a stop
at this potter's heaven to witness the making of Chinese pottery in the
innumerable factories. There are many shops lining the main streets that
sell various kinds of clay products.
Tzu
Hu or 'Lake Mercy' is a temporary resting place of the late Chiang Kaishek.
His body lies in his former country villa above the ground in a heavy
granite casket waiting for the day when political circumstances permit
for the returning of his body to his birthplace in the Zhejiang province,
China. The acacia forests and bamboo groves of Lake Mercy reflect the
rustic beauty of Taiwan's countryside. Many people sojourn to Tzu Hu to
pay their respects to the late president. The villa grounds are only open
prior to advance arrangements but the lake area is free for visitors to
wander.
Yangming
Shan is equivalent to Beverly Hills. About 40 minutes' drive north of
the city, this is home to many wealthy industrial tycoons, movie stars,
and entrepreneurs who own luxurious villas on cliff tops. Yangming Shan
has its own national park at the mountain top. Yangming Shan National
Park is a well maintained park, which is equipped with walkways that wind
through kaleidoscopic gardens of trees, bushes, flowers, and grottos.
Many volcanic origins still remain at the park in the form of hot springs.
An annual spring festival is held at the park, which is full of cherry
blossoms and bright-flowing azaleas. Busy days are on Sundays and holidays,
especially during spring and summer.
