The Phi Phi Islands are as beautiful as ever. While part of the main island Phi Phi Don, was affected by the tsunami, the good news is that many of those perfect beaches and vibrant coral reefs remain undisturbed.
Ferries are operating normally and diving has resumed in water that is amazingly clear. You can take a day trip or stay overnight in a number of hotels operating with full services on the tranquil north coast.
It's a great time to get that perfect beachfront room, in a lovely hotel at a fraction of the cost. It's also a perfect time to enjoy the absolute tranquility of the island, especially at sunrise and sunset.
Phi Phi's sheer cliffs stained with earth colours soar from calm, clear seas provide an unforgettable snorkelling or diving experience. Hire a local longtail boat and visit hidden coves and tropical beaches around tiny neighbouring islands close by. For a faster pace hire a speedboat to Phi Phi Lei, the smaller uninhabited island, which beckons trippers with superb snorkelling and vivid turquoise waters.
Travelling to Phi Phi is easy. Ferry services make return trips twice-daily departing from Phuket and Krabi, with prices starting at 250 baht - one way. A regular ferry service from Koh Lanta direct to Phi Phi also operates in the high season. Tickets can be booked at any travel agency or at the piers.
Once you've arrived, relax and enjoy. There are no roads on Phi Phi Don, only footpaths between certain beaches, but there are plenty of local longtail boats to cruise from one perfect beach to the next. If you've booked your hotel in advance, porters will be waiting at the pier to collect your bags.
