One of the oldest
imperial capitals in Japan, it is virtually an open-air museum. Visitors
will find countless shrines, temples, palaces, and other historical sights
all over the city. Like Tokyo, it offers the glare of neon lights at nights,
along with urbanization. Yet it is completely different in every respect,
from language, food, and even people's attitudes.
It is quite easy
to travel to and within Kyoto. Flights can be taken to Kyoto via Osaka
Itami airport, which handles mostly domestic traffic, as well as the new
Kansai international airport, which mainly deals with international flights.
Regular flights are available from Tokyo and journey time is approximately
70 minutes. It is, however, more convenient to take the shinkansen (bullet
trains). The bus also efficiently services the city and the subway will
transport visitors between the north and south of the city.
