Hari Raya Qurban
(March 16)

(Nationwide Public Holiday)
This Muslim festival is celebrated approximately two months after Hari Raya Aidilfitri on the last month of the Muslim calendar. Also known as Hari Raya Aidil Adha, this occasion is special for those who have completed the Haj or the pilgrimage to Mecca. According to the fifth tenet of Islam, Muslims are required to perform a pilgrimage to the holy city at least once in their lifetime. Upon the completion of the Haj, pilgrims will sacrifice animals and the meat is then distributed to the poor. This quiet festival is spent offering thanksgiving and prayers of forgiveness at the mosque in the morning, after which visitations to homes of friends and relatives are made.
