Mulu National Park

Situated in the far northeast of Sarawak, it is the gateway to fantastic and gigantic caves. Mulu has the world's largest chamber, the Sarawak Chamber, which will easily hold 40 Boeing 747s. The longest cave passage, the Clear Water Cave, has almost 60km of known passages. And Deer Cave, which has the largest cave passage, was in days long gone a shelter for hordes of deer. It also served as a human burial ground. However, it has now been taken over by millions of bats, which can be seen flying out in formation in search of food. Besides being the largest cave passage, another unique feature is the "Adam and Eve's Shower", a cascade of water falling down 120 meters from the cave roof. The Wind Cave, when approached by way of the Melinau River, will greet visitors with a refreshing breeze, especially when they enter the cave after climbing up the steps. Within it is the King's Chamber, which is named for its magnificent display of stalactites and stalagmites of all shapes and sizes. Beware, for this chamber is said to be haunted! For those who have lots of time and more than enough energy, the challenging Pinnacles sitting on Gunung Api (Fire Mountain) is another exciting destination.

The spectacular Pinnacles, sculptured and grooved by rain over the centuries rises to a height of 45 meters. It can be reached after a 3 hour climb that is challenging but absolutely rewarding. A variety of wild orchids and pitcher plants rarely seen elsewhere can be spotted along your trek up the Pinnacles.
