Georgetown, the capital City of Penang, was named after King George III of England. Take a drive through historical Georgetown to visit the most prominent buildings of the colonial era that are now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Photo stop at Fort Cornwallis that once belonged to the English East India Company and where Captain Francis Light first landed in 1786. Next, you will enter into the Clan Jetties, an intricate network of rows and rows of houses built on stilts out on the sea in the 19th century by the Chinese immigrants.
Enjoy an authentic trishaw ride through the heart of Georgetown and be fascinated by its charming colonial architecture, the modern skyscrapers of bustling Chinatown and all the colours of Little India. Stop at one of the most magnificent clan houses, Khoo Kong Si. The building features intricate carvings and woodwork bearing the mark of master craftsmen from China. Lastly, visit the majestic Thai Buddhist Temple, Wat Chayamangkalaram, which houses one of the world's largest reclining Buddhas at 33 metres.
