Wellington

Cuba Mall

The Cuba Mall is another must for shopping and dining activities. Closed to traffic, it is a pleasant place to wander around. It has a nice touch with numerous pubs, restaurants, coffeehouses, and arts and crafts shops. The summer season presents stints by buskers and street performers. To get there, head out of Civic Square, walk south down Willis Street, and turn left into Dixon Street. You can be there in 5 minutes.

Oriental Parade

Oriental Parade is an aesthetically pleasing place. As it is near the shoreline, it is a favorite amongst joggers, swimmers, sunbathers, and cyclists. Its unique attraction is the large fountain that is anchored 100 meters offshore and many will often swim out to it. The other interesting attraction is the public swimming pool (Freyburg) with a climbing wall outside. Besides water sports, the Parade offers nice restaurants with ocean views, pleasant (though expensive) pubs, and an excellent view of the city.

To get here, walk along the shoreline for about 10 minutes from the Civic Square. Alternatively, take Wakefield Street past the markets until you hit Oriental Parade.

Lambton Quay

Lambton Quay is a haven for any shopping enthusiast. One of the main shopping areas in Wellington, it has fabulous shopping sites, as well as fine drinking establishments and cafes. Lambton is a wonderful place, full of wonderful old buildings with great architecture designs. It stretches from Thorndon Quay, near the Railway Station alongside the waterfront, to Willis Street, which is located a few minutes from the Civic Square.

Night Spots

Tatou

There are 2 floorsin Tatou: a quiet and relaxing floor with a variety of music and a hardcore floor that introduces techno, jungle, drum & bass, and the likes. Located on Cambridge Terrace, around the corner form Courtenay Place, Tatou is a very popular night spot with good jamming sessions from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. Don’t go too early or you’ll be disappointed; the action starts late.

Blue Room

The renovated Café Paradiso contains the bar, Blue Room. This is a place specifically for techno junkies. Relax on the big couches and select from the wide range of alcoholic drinks available - an immensely comfortable place!

La Luna

A place for popular deejays, La Luna is separated into two bars. One predominantly Hip-Hop while the other plays rave-like music. Although it is not as trendy as the Blue Room or Tatou, it is nonetheless a popular spot among the crowds.
