Up-Market Restaurants

Like many other countries in the world, the Philippines is not short of up-market restaurants, providing a great dining experience for anyone who can afford it. These restaurants often offer an impressive diversity of cuisine with a price to match as well. Unless you're willing to spend a considerable sum of money for excellent food, first-class service, a cozy atmosphere and sometimes, a cultural or fashion show, dining in a top restaurant such as a hotel restaurant can indeed burn a hole in your pocket. It is hardly surprising, considering that a real gourmet meal can cost you between P350 to P500 or more per person.

Those with expensive taste with money to spend might want to wine and dine at the Makati Shangri-La or EDSA Heritage Hotel that serve some of the finest local dishes to elite standards.

How about sampling Filipino food in true Filipino-style? Real food-lovers might want to give the Kamayan Restaurant on Padre Faura St., Ermita or the one on Pasay Rd, Makati a try. They will probably find the food served in this restaurant up to their standards. Apart from the authentic cuisine, diners who don't mind getting their hands dirty might find this Filipino-style of dining quite an adventurous experience. Kamayan means 'bare hands' and that's how diners eat in this restaurant - without knives and forks.

Besides Filipino dishes, those with something different in mind might find it a pleasure to dine at the Tempura-Misono, a popular Japanese restaurant in the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Roxas Blvd, Pasay City. Alternatively, they can dine at the La Gondola Italian Restaurant located at Makati Ave, Makati. It serves delicious pasta. The Old Swiss Inn Restaurant is another good choice for it offers excellent Swiss food at the Garden Plaza Hotel on Belen St., Paco. And of course, the L'Eau Vive, a French restaurant serving international and French cuisine on Paz Mendoza Guazon Ave, Paco.

Note : For up-market restaurants, diners are requested to dress in their formal clothes. Thongs (flip-flops), shorts and singlets are strictly prohibited.
