Lai Chau Introduction
Lai Châu is a province in northwestern Vietnam. Lai Chau province is easily the most sparsely populated in Vietnam. It shares a border with China. It was previously a semi-independent Whitened Tai confederation referred to as Sipsongchuthai, but was absorbed by France into French Indochina within the 1880s and subsequently grew to become a part of Vietnam following Vietnamese independence in 1954.[1][2] It grew to become area of the Northwest Autonomous Part of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam from 1955 to 1975, when Lai Châu province was created. Ði?n Biên province was created from Lai Châu in 2004.
